The Government has opened applications for a new Business Investor Visa aimed at attracting overseas investors willing to put money and hands-on support into established New Zealand businesses.
Immigration Minister Erica Stanford said the scheme is intended to bring practical skills and fresh capital into the economy, with a focus on helping firms remain viable as local owners retire and succession options narrow.
The visa offers two pathways: a three-year work-to-residence option for those investing $1 million, and a faster 12-month route for those investing $2 million. Officials say the approach is part of a wider review of business-related visa settings designed to support economic growth.
Since the introduction of the Active Investor Plus visa in April, more than 440 applications have been received, representing a potential $2.63 billion in investment, it is claimed. The Government says attracting capable investors remains a key part of its plan to “strengthen local businesses” and “protect New Zealand jobs”.
