Jetstar will ban the use and charging of portable power banks on all New Zealand flights from 15 December, as part of a wider Qantas Group safety policy responding to risks posed by damaged or defective lithium-ion batteries.
Passengers will still be allowed to carry up to two power banks in cabin baggage, but they must remain within reach and cannot be placed in checked luggage.
Air New Zealand is reviewing its own rules and expects to update customers next week.
The move aligns Jetstar with several international airlines that have already introduced similar bans amid ongoing concerns about lithium-battery fire hazards.
