Luxon meets with Xi

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon met Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday local time, marking a “key moment” in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between New Zealand and China.

Held at the Great Hall of the People, the meeting focused on trade, tourism, and regional stability.

Luxon described the discussion as a chance to reflect on the “depth and breadth” of the bilateral relationship. He highlighted how the two countries’ economic links are “complementary” and contribute to shared prosperity, directly supporting New Zealand’s growth goals. The leaders also discussed increasing aviation links and growing tourism and cultural exchanges.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of maintaining open dialogue amid global challenges. “Our comprehensive and mature relationship allows New Zealand and China to speak frankly and constructively,” he said.

Luxon also raised the importance of the “international rules-based system” and urged China to play a role in resolving conflicts like the war in Ukraine.

Regional security featured prominently, with Luxon reaffirming New Zealand’s commitment to peace and Pacific-led priorities, including the role of the Pacific Islands Forum. He also underscored the need for reduced tensions in the Indo-Pacific.

During his visit, Luxon is also scheduled to meet with Premier Li Qiang and National People’s Congress Chairman Zhao Leji.

  1. So Luxon obviously has no idea, the Chinese must have realised he is an idiot.
The “international rules-based system” does not exist. Where is it written down? The west just role that phrase out to justify whatever current violence that they are undertaking around the workd.
Luxon “urged China to play a role in resolving conflicts like the war in Ukraine.”
He should be urging the US and EU to end this war they created. It was nothing to do with China. But Luxon doesn’t have the intellect or balls to do that.

    • Been to China many times, they don’t care what we think. NZ has no influence on the world stage. China has second tier cities bigger than the whole country.

You are right about the West in general, especially the US, UK and Germany, the hypocrisy at this point is undeniable and palpable.

  2. Luxon also raised the importance of the “international rules-based system” and urged China to play a role in resolving conflicts like the war in Ukraine.
What is the “international rules based system”?
The remnants of international law a crash scene and carnage at the bottom of the cliff
    Maybe freedom of navigation
Luxon is a hypocrite and pathetic
And has as much charisma as a floating turd in a bed chamber pot
    Traveling clown show
    The Great Wallenda?
    Does Xi suffer fools gladly?

  3. Two stupid evil useless self-serving old scumbags.

The only difference being we can vote out Luxon, to be replaced by somebody likely worse obviously. The Chinese folks aren’t so lucky.

  4. Meantime, New Zealand has signed a deal with the Philippines, allowing either nation to place their nations troops on the others soil. Allegedly to protect each other from China. More likely, out of mutual fear of revolution or civil war.

    • Yes, New Zealand and the Philippines have recently signed a Status of Visiting Forces Agreement (SOVFA), which sets the legal framework for military cooperation between the two countries. This agreement allows their armed forces to conduct joint activities, training, and exercises in each other’s territories
It builds on earlier defense arrangements, including the Mutual Logistics Support Arrangement (MLSA) signed in June 2024, and reflects a growing commitment to regional security and collaboration
The SOVFA still requires final ratification by the Philippine Senate before it fully takes effect
The agreement was a direct outcome of a commitment made during Prime Minister Christopher Luxon’s visit to Manila in April 2024, where he and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. agreed to deepen defense ties
Are there more mass vaccination campaigns coming up?
After all they were all in on it
      But Yes You’re right
      Its all about control
      It always is

  5. I genuinely hope that at some point these disgusting vile awful corrupt ‘leaders’ would just permanently f*ck off.

Why people actually vote for them is a complete mystery.

Although obviously nobody ever voted for Xi.

  6. I’m wondering about the timing of cutting off aid to the Cooks right at the time that nundenut CLuxon is visiting China. Either it’s a superb diplomatic manoeuvre, or an act of massive stupidity.

Knowing CLuxon, I would say it’s the latter.
