A video report from Revolution Media New Zealand highlights the problems at the Northern Checkpoint when people with no legal authority believe they are in control.
In the video the reporter describes being harassed by Tai Tokerau representatives for not wearing a mask, and compares the situation to pre-war Germany where organisations such as the Brownshirts, with no legal authority, collaborated with Hitler’s government to enforce the will of the state.

Just had a Tai Tokerau representative here at this Nazi checkpoint harassing us for not having masks on. Didn’t ask us if we had a mask exemption.
We’re outside, you don’t actually have to wear a mask outisde, and this is what happens when a government goes out of control, when people who don’t have authority believe they do.
They start harassing those around them. So it’s just like Nazi Germany in 1938, 1940, where you have Brownshirts. People with really no authority but were hired by the government or came on with the government in a collaboration to go ahead and harass innocent, law-abiding civilians. S
o we’re already seeing that here, just off the gate, just arrived here about 5-10 minutes ago, and already what we’re seeing isn’t good.
What arent people getting here? Someone setting up private checkpoints to inhibit the freedoms of others? This is completely illegal under the Bill of rights.
This is such bullshit! Makes my blood boil seeing these “self appointed” Māori groups thinking they can tell law abiding citizens what to do and how to behave when out in public. I’m Māori and these clowns do not represent me nor are they are protecting me and my whānau from this “deadly” virus. Get off your high horse, go home and leave us to travel free around our country. We don’t need looking after thank you very much and I certainly do not need a Government or “self-appointed” idiots telling me what to do! Now get!!
