New Zealand Doctors Speaking Out with Science (NZDSOS) has accused the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) of overreach after it was briefly listed as a “broadcaster” on the authority’s online complaints page.
The listing, which appeared in the drop-down menu for formal complaints, was reportedly removed following “major pushback” from supporters earlier in the week.
In a statement shared on social media, NZDSOS said it was “not television” and “not radio,” but rather a collective of doctors discussing “medicine and health policy” while challenging what it sees as attempts to suppress dissent. The group claimed the inclusion of its name on the BSA site reflected a “coordinated targeting” effort, alleging that the authority’s “quasi-judicial powers” could be used to silence alternative voices in health discussions.
Dr Alison Goodwin from NZDSOS spoke with broadcaster Sean Plunket about the issue, questioning how and why the group’s name appeared in the BSA’s complaints database. The BSA has not yet commented publicly on the incident or clarified how NZDSOS came to be listed among recognised broadcasters.

Did you listen? I did. I don’t agree with Sean quite a bit, especially his takes on Israel but I appreciate him giving me a voice. I frequently call up and find it a very valuable resource for free speech. If you don’t like Sean, listen to Michael or Leah. They both have very informative and well planned shows and great guests.
Agree, Plunket is essentially the platform, and he does not exemplify a free speech exponent.
He gave them exposure which I take as a positive. I don’t listen to plunket or tune in to the platform. I can’t stand his manner. To promote the platform as a free speech platform is not accurate, you cannot be free to speak on one topic but not on another, he calls it editorial license. I say he’s a chicken.
