Pair charged under Films, Videos and Publications Classification Act

Christchurch objectionable material case news

Police arrested two people in Christchurch last night in relation to alleged offences under the Films, Videos, and Publications Classification Act 1993.

At 8.45pm last evening, police released the following statement:

A man has been charged with two counts of distributing an objectionable publication and one charge of failing to carry out obligations in relation to a computer search.

A woman has been charged with distributing an objectionable publication, failing to carry out obligations in relation to a computer search and obstructing Police.

They have been bailed to appear in the Christchurch District Court on 31 August 2022.

As these matters are due before the courts, Police have no further comment.

Speculation is growing online as to whether the pair referred to in the statement are Kelvyn Alp and Hannah Spierer, the directors of Counterspin Media reportedly arrested last night.

Update to follow.

  1. If it is them, it will not be the first time. But the message is clear that the Government (and I use the term lightly) is beginning to panic. We all know what these two are about, providing an alternative voice and coverage of what is actually going on, not what the Government and spineless media would have us believe.

They have now made a clear statement of intent. Government agencies, and yes the police are an agency of Government no matter how much they claim independence, will now be intensifying their efforts to crush freedom of speech, thought and opinion. This is heading to a very different and dangerous place.

They will first go after the more high profile targets, and then work down the list of perceived radical elements, in other words, anyone opposed to the Government line and narrative. Anyone or group with Freedom as a banner. We have moved into a new space.

  2. The govt do not have the freedom to Islamise NZ. Ardern’s introduction of Islamic prayers into the NZ Parliament will be richly rewarded with her trip to Hell in due course. God will not be mocked. She rejected the Mormon deities why not the other false ones, or is that beeing too kind?
Stroppy Maori want to revive their old gods which give them land and water rights.
Don’t let these rogue pollies out of sight.
