Petraeus warns US against ‘high-risk’ ground mission in Iran

A former US Central Command chief has cautioned Washington against launching a ground operation in Iran to seize enriched uranium, describing such a move as highly dangerous and complex.

Retired General David Petraeus said the idea would carry significant risks, including potentially heavy casualties, and would be difficult to execute given uncertainty over the location of Iran’s uranium stockpiles.

Speaking to Fox News as a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran nears its expiry, Petraeus dismissed the notion that targeting more Iranian leaders would resolve the broader conflict, arguing it would not bring a lasting end to tensions. He noted that while US military action has inflicted damage, Iran remains resilient and is still weighing its negotiating position.

The warning comes amid statements from Donald Trump that an extension to the ceasefire is unlikely, alongside plans to maintain a naval blockade on Iranian ports. Petraeus said economic pressure has not pushed Iran to a breaking point, suggesting both sides remain short of desperation.

He added that neither Washington nor Tehran appears eager to return to full-scale conflict, citing infrastructure damage across the Gulf and mounting economic strain on both countries during weeks of hostilities. Fresh diplomatic efforts are expected, with JD Vance and other officials heading to Pakistan for potential talks, though uncertainty remains over whether negotiations will proceed.

According to Petraeus, any discussions are likely to centre on Iran’s uranium enrichment programme and securing safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, leaving open the question of whether a workable compromise can be reached.

  1. The “talks” (which aren’t going to happen soon) need to be centred on Israel and their expansionist policies. The US is simply the zionazi’s proxy doing the heavy lifting for them in areas they don’t want to extend themselves into just yet.
How much are the “leaders” in the “west” prepared to pay for zionazi expansion?

    • They may not remain leaders for long if people in the West start to find fuel and food running out. This will place enormous international pressure on Stump and may even see nations reach a negotiated settlement with Iran without the US and their nations warships escorting vessels through the straight past the pirates. At that point the US is finished, done as a meaningful arbiter on the world stage.

The alternative is either by some miracle a peace deal or maybe WWIII.

  2. If Iran really wanted to stuff the US, they could simply give the Uranium to Russia for safe keeping. It would completely bugger the US narrative.

  3. Interesting now we can clearly see how the MSM is incompetent.
MSM is claiming that this ‘will soon be over’ that Iran will ‘submit’.
However according to the independent voices MSM free this is simply not the case. Iran has smashed all american bases in the Middle East.
It has helped Iraq to liberate the american military bases in Iraq and Iraq is finally free after 23 years of occupation.
At the same time parts of Israel look like Gaza.
And Iran has its own conditions for ending this war of aggression diametrically opposite to Trump’s rant.
If necessary Iran will continue fighting since there can be no agreement with the genocidal maniacs.
