Police updates on crimes and investigations for 13 September 2022.

Name release – drowning, Mangahauini River, Tokomaru Bay

Police can now name the woman who died while attempting a crossing of the Mangahauini River on 10 September.

She was Jillian Carlyle aged 65, from Tokomaru.

‘Our thoughts are with her whānau and loved ones.’

The death has now been referred to the Coroner.

Update – Fatality following serious crash, Thorndon

One of the pedestrians struck by a vehicle on St Mary Street in Thorndon on 31 August has passed away in hospital.

76-year-old Rachael Mary Davin was critically injured in the incident on 31 August and had been receiving medical treatment in Wellington Hospital.

Tragically she passed away in hospital on 12 September.

‘Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones.’

A second pedestrian seriously injured in the same incident continues to recover from their injuries.

An enquiry into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.

  1. Yep growing up in Wellie you really needed to be on your toes with the traffic and buses. Had a few close calls in my time.. Narrow streets, big buses and cars receipe for disaster. Hats off to all the brave cyclists, quite frankly they’re nuts. Be safer biking in Afghanistan. But thoughts with the family of yet another victim of the streets and roads of the windy city… ????
