‘Prominent New Zealander’ granted name and charge suppression ahead of court appearance

Wellington crime news

A prominent New Zealander is set to reappear in the Wellington District Court on Monday after facing eight serious charges, all classified as category three offences.

The man, who first appeared via audio visual link on 3 July, has been granted interim suppression orders preventing anyone from publishing his name or the nature of the charges.

At his previous hearing the defendant was remanded on bail without entering a plea.

  1. Whatever happened to ‘The Well-Known Man’ in Palmy North who remains un-named and unidentified?
The public deserves to know those who might be endangering them and their children.
Could it be that these offenders are J3wi$h, Masonic or both????!

  2. I am a strong believer in name suppression regardless if that person is prominent or not. Clearly there is a defence and each person has the right to present their case. Be judged and if found not guilty allowed to carry on with their life. Be compensated.

I note government stats are now recorded as neither guilty or not proven. What unelected bureaucrat thought it was OK to change that to something less than what the law is.

In such cases, discovered perjury from complainants must automatically be prosecuted.

    • I am a strong believer in absolute power corrupting absolutely.

Governments are inherently corrupt and self serving. I don’t think it’s a good idea for the rich and powerful to have codified laws that let their buddies in the judiciary hide their crimes and identities from the public. The temptation for abuse is too great, I don’t care what they want to wrap it in. There’s a REASON why almost every major government is tripping over themselves trying to censor the internet right now; they fear the free exchange of information, not MISSinformation (as they call it).

Yes, it’s bad when someone is falsely accused of rape or fraud and has to have the stigma follow him the rest of his days, my heart goes out, but giving the government unlimited secrecy powers isn’t a solution to such a problem.

Fully agree with pretty much everything else you said 👍

  3. To my mind, this should be applied equitably to everyone. The fact its not, tells you all you need to know about “justice” in New Zealand.
