MetService has upgraded Wellington’s wind warning to red, warning of “destructive” gusts reaching up to 150km/h that pose a threat to life and which the agency says are expected to cause widespread damage, transport disruption, and power outages.
Residents are urged to stay indoors or shelter away from trees. Around 1,000 properties are without power, and Fire and Emergency crews are responding to multiple incidents, including lifted roofing iron and fallen trees damaging power lines in Petone, Brooklyn, and central Wellington.
Red winds for the red capital.
Nothing special, it is called windy wellington for a reason.
