Tauranga man Russell Watts continues to suffer lasting injuries and anxiety after being assaulted by Rotorua woman Stevee Ormsby during a confrontation over her “dangerous” parking near a tight bend in Maungatapu in April 2024.

Watts, 63, who frequently photographed illegally parked cars near Te Wati Park for safety reasons, was grabbed by the neck and struck on the head, leaving him unconscious and with ongoing nerve damage that affects his daily life.

Judge Melinda Mason rejected Ormsby’s claim of self-defence as unreliable, noting the severity of Watts’ injuries and her lack of remorse.

Despite her request for a discharge without conviction to protect her chartered accountancy career, the judge ruled the consequences did not outweigh the seriousness of the offending.

Ormsby was sentenced to six months’ supervision and ordered to pay $500 in emotional harm.

  1. And Mr Russell Watts was sentenced with ongoing nerve damage that affects his daily life.

This woman, Stevee Ormsby should be sent to prison.

  2. Maybe find a hobby, go for walks or get a dog. Might be a better use of your time than policing the parking spaces like a busybody Judge Dredd.

If they’re breaking the law, report them, simple as. Don’t go in guns blazing for a confrontation when you’re 63 years old. Common sense.

He’s lucky it was some dainty woman accountant and not one of the Killer Bees et al. They would’ve put him six feet under.

Boomer-world is rapidly coming to an end, and reality hits hard. Stay in your lane Grandpa – I say this because I care.

    • I was thinking the same thing. When I was growing up we had an old busy body at the local dump. Always pestering people about where and how the dumped things. He claimed to be working for the council so we called them and it turned out they had no one there. This was way back in the day when it wasn’t anywhere near as bureaucratic as it is now. He would badger all kinds of people and was lucky no one lost their rag and gave him a lesson in minding his own business.
