Iranian forces have launched a search operation for the crew of a US military jet reportedly shot down by its air defence systems, with troops deployed and a bounty offered as conflicting reports emerge over the aircraft type.
Iranian state media aired footage said to show wreckage in Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province, while US media reported that special forces successfully rescued one of the two crew members.
Tehran claims the aircraft was a next-generation F-35, but American officials insist it was an F-15E.
The incident comes amid a widening regional war that began over a month ago with US-Israeli strikes on Iran, triggering retaliatory attacks that have spread across the Middle East, disrupted global markets, and affected millions worldwide, with US Central Command yet to publicly respond.
