Speeding ticket refunds on the cards as cops name non-existent road

Speeding tickets news

Thousands of motorists in the South Island might be eligible for refunds on speeding tickets due to a police error.

A speed camera mistakenly attributed offenses to a non-existent road, ‘Mt Aspiring Rd’, instead of the correct ‘Wanaka Mount Aspiring Rd.’

Upon discovery by a ticket recipient, police confirmed the error and cancelled affected infringement notices. The mistake, identified in December 2023, resulted in 3,126 incorrect notices issued over three years. Police are contacting affected individuals and refunding applicable fees.
