Trump’s top aide insists Greenland should be U.S. territory

A senior aide to U.S. President Donald Trump has reiterated Washington’s claim over Greenland, saying the island should belong to the United States and that no country could realistically block such a move.

Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff for policy and a central figure in shaping Trump’s agenda, said the president has made clear for months that incorporating Greenland into the US security framework is an official position of the current administration. Speaking to CNN, Miller argued that American control of the Arctic territory was necessary for broader NATO security and suggested Denmark’s claim to Greenland was weak.

Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, has again become a diplomatic flashpoint since Trump’s return to office revived his long-standing interest in acquiring the island on national security grounds. Tensions sharpened last week after Miller’s wife, Katie Miller, posted an image of Greenland overlaid with a US flag and the word “soon” on social media, followed by Trump stating that the US “absolutely needs” Greenland.

When asked whether military force was under consideration, Miller avoided a direct answer but insisted no nation would confront the US militarily over Greenland’s future.

Danish and Greenlandic leaders have firmly rejected the claims. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen warned that threats against a close ally were unacceptable and said any military action against a NATO member would effectively collapse the alliance. Greenland’s prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, described the rhetoric as insulting and made clear that Greenland was not for sale or annexation, rejecting what he called “fantasies of takeover.”
