Wellington Water Chair resigns after sewage crisis

Nick Leggett resigns

Wellington Water chair Nick Leggett has resigned after the Moa Point treatment plant failure led to about 70 million litres of untreated sewage being discharged into Cook Strait daily, an incident described as an environmental disaster with public health and environmental consequences.

Leggett said the seriousness of the failure meant leadership accountability was required and stepping down would allow the organisation to focus on recovery and rebuilding trust, as an independent government review investigates the cause.

Deputy chair Bill Bayfield will become interim chair, while Wellington Mayor Andrew Little said the priority was ensuring recovery continues, clear information is provided to the public, and Wellington Water works with council and health authorities as repairs are expected to take months.

  1. Apparently Wellington is in for some shitty weather today Sunday and Monday
    In more ways than one
A strong southerly typically brings high winds heavy swells and sea spray along Wellington’s south coast
With untreated sewage still being discharged these conditions can increase blow back exposure in several ways
    Airborne exposure from sea spray
    Higher contamination levels near shore
    Respiratory irritation from gases
    Increased risk of infection
    Welcome to Wellington

  2. This is what you get with DEI hires.
They put in a cycleway instead of upgrading the sewage system.
A classic case of ideology trumping practicality.
    Symptomatic of the whole country.

    • Yes NZ is slowly degenerating
Now all out in the open
Swimming naked at its lowest ebb
With a fragile depressed economy and job market and with interest rates set to rise through high inflation
Rudderless drifting aimlessly with no leadership

    • The cycle ways are Donkey’s legacy, not paid with the millions he made with currency trading against the NZ worker, but with debt governments have bought your votes with, which your kids have to pay for while being fleeced as sheeple.

  3. This is what happens when rate payer dollars are wasted on moronic, unnecessary, vanity projects rather than core infrastructure. Its not just the treatment plants either, its piping all over Wellington. Time central government stepped in and cleaned up the mess. Oh wait, that’s right, they are incompetent and wasteful too…….

  4. Nothing will change until you get rid of the green DEI woke ideology that permeates the council. Unfortunately that won’t happen under Little.

  5. We are sliding into 3rd world status. Wokeism, the Greens, DEI, target of white male leadership to be replaced with inexperienced “other” leaves decision makers (LoL) susceptible to commercial robbery. Increasing corruption levels…the Greens are shoo lifter’s, remember the crazy Arab, peados (Pussy Galore), gay Mexican communists and Maori rascals who love to stick the knife in civil society. Until strong men or women hire and fire on Merit, the slide to banana Republic status will progress unabated.

Also, it’s clear the political creatures in NZ, at all levels, are bereft of any civic duty. They have systematically crippled the country and move on to cushie corporate roles or in Arderns case, f+-k a country for a PR agenda. Sickos.

    • We are forced to pay homage to some archaic relict from the past called the Treaty of Waitangi
An outdated document garnished with cultural rights that has no semblance of meaning nor standing in this present day or age
A gun being held at the head used as an instrument of extortion for a minority group of professional victims a predator and parasite
Insatiable who can never be placated and who will always arrive back for more
A handbrake that is putting the dampers on in preventing this country from going forward
NZ is a mixed race fu*kup masquerading as a democracy in hope of some prospective future
The parliament has turned into a circus or feeding time at the zoo
Full of gays queers and misfits
Ill advised ill equipped and incapable
      Who can never deliver

  6. I argue if the water sewage treatment plant had the funding and not the cycle lanes, the plant would of had a better chance of working.

The problem we have is political correctness, wants rather than needs. A government who thinks repayment must be done in one term and a bunch of indigenous people who believe they were better off having to attack, murder and eat one another and a life expectancy of about 35.

The opposition believes, stealing a percentage of citizens property is an acceptable way of funding handouts and out of control wasteful spending. How about getting back to basics. How about making things other countries could buy from NZ.

It would be helpful if NZ could cutout the male wealth, redistribution. If you can’t secure ownership of land in a relationship, Men are choosing short or no relationship.

  7. Nick Leggett, just another career bullshitician parasite, never having worked a productive day in his life.
When will the sheeple take note of whom they vote for (or not, as in case of ALL bureaucrats we have to feed and endure).
Bullshiticians you can vote for every 4 years.
    Bureaucracy is FOREVER!
