Auckland FC score last-gasp equaliser to salvage draw against Sydney FC

Auckland FC secured a dramatic 1-1 draw against Sydney FC at Leichhardt Oval after scoring deep into stoppage time to deny the hosts victory.

Sydney looked set to take all three points after Alexandar Popovic headed home in the 84th minute following sustained pressure, but Auckland struck back in the fifth minute of added time when a chaotic goalmouth scramble ended with the ball deflecting off Alex Grant and into the net.

Both sides created chances throughout the match, with goalkeepers Michael Woud and Harrison Devenish-Meares making key saves, before Auckland’s late equaliser earned them a valuable point ahead of their upcoming derby clash with Wellington Phoenix.
