Blues Head Coach Vern Cotter has largely retained the same lineup for the upcoming DHL Super Rugby Pacific Quarter Final against the Fijian Drua, set to take place at Eden Park on Saturday night.
The only alteration to the starting pack is the inclusion of lock Josh Beehre, who replaces Sam Darry due to concussion protocols. In the backs, Rieko Ioane returns to center, partnering with AJ Lam, while Harry Plummer resumes his position at first five-eight, and Stephen Perofeta returns to fullback. Mark Tele’a and Caleb Clarke will continue to occupy the wing positions.
Cotter told the Blues’ website of the importance of mental preparation and focus as the team enters knockout rugby. Acknowledging the physical challenge posed by the Drua, Cotter highlighted the need for accuracy, discipline, and a clear game plan. He also called for strong support from fans at Eden Park, noting the positive impact of a loud and passionate crowd. Last weekend’s turnout of 22,000 fans was particularly motivating for the team, and Cotter hopes for a similar atmosphere to boost the Blues in their pursuit of victory in the finals.
