Liam Lawson will start 11th on the grid for Formula One’s Belgium sprint race after narrowly missing out on the top 10 by just 0.041 seconds in SQ2, edged out by McLaren’s Lando Norris.
Despite a strong lap, Lawson encountered a late issue in the final chicane and was caught out by improving track conditions.
Still, it marks his best sprint qualifying to date, ahead of both Mercedes cars, Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari, and teammate Yuki Tsunoda’s Red Bull.
Oscar Piastri set a track record to take pole, followed by Max Verstappen and Norris. The sprint, a 15-lap race with points only for the top eight, starts Saturday at 10pm NZT.
