Jannik Sinner continued his dominant run on the ATP Tour by defeating Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6-2, 7-5 to advance to the Madrid Open quarter-finals and stretch his unbeaten streak to 20 matches.
The world number one, chasing a fourth consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title after triumphs at Indian Wells, Miami and Monte Carlo, controlled most of the contest before closing out the second set in under 90 minutes.
The victory matches Sinner’s best result in Madrid and also places him alongside Novak Djokovic as only the second player to win the opening 20 Masters 1000 matches of a season.
After the match, Sinner praised Norrie’s competitiveness but also criticised the tournament’s scheduling, saying late-night finishes were difficult for players to recover from.
