One New Zealand Warriors prop Zyon Maiu’u has been released from his contract early to explore opportunities in the NRL across the Tasman.
The 21-year-old forward, who was contracted with the Warriors until the end of the 2026 season, sought an early exit to secure more playing time elsewhere.
“We were keen for Zyon to stay, but he’s looking for more opportunities,” said Warriors general manager of recruitment, pathways, and development Andrew McFadden.
Maiu’u joined the Warriors in 2021 and steadily progressed through the club’s development system, becoming a key player for the New South Wales Cup reserve-grade side. He made 43 appearances in the competition across the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
His NRL debut came on Anzac Day 2023 in the Warriors’ clash against the Gold Coast Titans at Go Media Stadium, marking his only first-grade appearance so far.
With his future now set in Australia, Maiu’u will look to cement his place in the NRL as he embarks on the next chapter of his career.
