Portia Woodman-Wickliffe extended her Women’s Rugby World Cup try-scoring record to 21 as the Black Ferns claimed a 54-8 victory over Spain in York.
New Zealand led 21-3 at halftime after a tough opening but ran away in the second half, with Jorja Miller and Ayesha Leti-Iiga crossing twice each alongside tries from Liana Mikaele-Tu’u, Georgia Ponsonby, Theresa Setefano, and Woodman-Wickliffe.
Despite finishing with 13 players due to injuries, the defending champions proved too strong. Spain grabbed a late consolation try, while New Zealand’s Kaipo Olsen-Baker suffered a serious leg injury that threatens her 2025 campaign. In the same pool, Ireland eased past Japan 42-14 with six tries.
