‘It’s not climate, it’s a f***ing land grab!’
The Dutch ‘Nitrogen Minister’ Christianne van der Wal told media the government would pay over and above market value.
Dutch Prime Minister and World Economic Forum acolyte Mark Rutte is set to push ahead with his programme of radical climate laws as his government looks to ‘force-purchase’ up to 3,000 farms it accuses of non-compliance with nitrogen regulations.
‘Recent EU nature preservation rules require member states to reduce emissions across sectors of the economy. As one of Europe’s most prominent farming nations, half of the Netherlands’ emissions come from agricultural activity,’ wrote journalist Keean Baxte on Countersignal.
The Dutch Farmer protests earlier in the year drew international attention, and it appeared things had settled down for a while. However, with the latest announcement of forced buy-outs, a new round of protests are set to begin, dubbed Dutch Farmer Protests 2.0. According to Countersignal the situation is already escalating to the point where the government would soon not be able to control the backlash.
However, a group of farmers have agreed to stop farming, but wish to retain their land, but apparently this is not acceptable either to the government, leading many to label the ‘climate policy’ a land grab.
Some Dutch farmers have said "OK .. we will stop growing and get regular jobs but keep our land" the Dutch Gov are fighting them there too.
