Israel is set to ban 37 international aid organisations from operating in Gaza as early as next week unless they hand over detailed information about their Palestinian staff, according to reports citing regional media.
The groups affected reportedly include major humanitarian organisations such as Doctors Without Borders, Oxfam and the Norwegian Refugee Council.
Aid agencies say the requirement raises serious concerns over the handling of sensitive personal data, particularly given the high number of humanitarian workers killed during the conflict.
Critics warn the move could slow aid delivery, delay repairs and worsen shortages of basic services for civilians in Gaza, despite growing pressure from the United Nations and the European Union.
In a statement, Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Combating Antisemitism, Amichai Chikli, said: “The message is clear: humanitarian assistance is welcome – the exploitation of humanitarian frameworks for terrorism is not.”
Israel has given NGOs until midnight Wednesday to comply, though some organisations have indicated they intend to continue operating regardless.
