In a major political shift, Kentucky state Sen. Robin Webb announced she is switching her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican, stating, “I didn’t leave the party — the party left me.”
Representing the rural 18th district, Webb criticized the Democratic Party’s move toward policies she says harm economic and workforce development in coal country.
“It has become untenable and counterproductive to the best interests of my constituents for me to remain a Democrat,” she said.
The switch delivers a blow to Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear, who is navigating state-level challenges while weighing a 2028 presidential run. Kentucky Republicans welcomed Webb, with GOP Chairman Robert Benvenuti praising her pragmatic focus on constituent needs.
