Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused the United States of directly orchestrating recent unrest in Iran, claiming Washington sought to reassert military, political and economic dominance over the country.
In a series of tweets, Khamenei said the disturbances were not spontaneous but the result of long-term American planning, arguing that since the 1979 Islamic Revolution the US has steadily lost its influence over Iran and has repeatedly attempted to reverse that loss through “sedition.”
“This is not tied to any single U.S. president,” Khamenei said, characterising the alleged actions as part of a broader and enduring American policy toward Iran.
He claimed the recent unrest differed from past episodes because the sitting U.S. president had personally intervened, with Donald Trump openly encouraging protesters and promising support, including military assistance, which he described as “criminal acts.”
Khamenei also accused the Trump of misrepresenting violent groups as “the Iranian nation”. Widespread acts of violence and sabotage, including attacks on mosques, educational institutions, banks, power infrastructure and healthcare facilities proved the insurgents were foreign-backed, acknowledging thousands of deaths, “some in an inhuman, savage manner.”
