In a speech to the UN General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow has no intention of attacking NATO or EU states but warned of a “decisive response” to any aggression.
He criticised Western threats against Russia and rejected claims of “planned attacks”, while denying involvement in recent drone and airspace incidents in Denmark, Estonia, and Poland.
Lavrov also condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank despite acknowledging the Hamas attacks of 7 October 2023, warning that Israeli operations risk destabilising the wider region.
He accused Western nations of undermining diplomacy with Iran after sanctions were reimposed and questioned the timing of recent recognition of Palestinian statehood by the UK, France, and others.
On the U.S., Lavrov noted a willingness for pragmatic cooperation, while reiterating Russia’s stance that it seeks a resolution to the war in Ukraine without “ideological framing”.
