A medical transport plane carrying a young girl who had just undergone life-saving treatment crashed and exploded near the Roosevelt Mall in Philadelphia on Friday night, killing all six people on board and one person on the ground.
The Learjet 55, operated by Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, went down shortly after departing from Northeast Philadelphia Airport at around 6:30 p.m., with doorbell cameras capturing the fiery explosion.
Authorities confirmed that the aircraft was carrying four crew members and two passengers—a pilot, copilot, physician, paramedic, the pediatric patient, and her mother, all Mexican nationals. The plane was only in the air for a minute before it crashed, leaving no survivors, according to Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker.
In addition to those onboard, at least one person in a car near the crash site was killed, and 19 others were injured. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, where utility companies are now working to restore services disrupted by the explosion. Mayor Parker urged residents in the impacted area to stay home if possible, assuring that emergency personnel were deployed throughout the neighborhood.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, with aviation and emergency officials examining the wreckage.
