Modi praises BRICS expansion ahead of summit in Kazan

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commended the expansion of BRICS ahead of the 16th annual summit, emphasizing the inclusion of six new emerging market countries—Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE—last year.

He remarked that these additions have enhanced the group’s inclusivity and global impact. Modi highlighted BRICS as a crucial platform for addressing global challenges such as developmental agendas, multilateral reforms, and economic cooperation.

Ahead of his visit to Kazan, Russia, Modi also underscored the importance of India’s strategic partnership with Moscow.

His trip follows a previous visit to Russia in July, where significant agreements, including a commitment to boost bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030, were made. Modi’s engagement with both Russia and Ukraine this year has drawn international attention, particularly from the West, as India maintains its stance on resolving the Ukraine conflict through dialogue and diplomacy.
