The UN Security Council has approved a US-drafted resolution endorsing U.S. President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan and authorising a new multinational “international stabilisation force” to help secure and rebuild the enclave.

The measure, passed on Monday, validates Trump’s proposed 20-point roadmap and recognizes the newly formed Board of Peace as a transitional governing body.

The stabilisation force, expected to include Arab and international contingents, will be tasked with providing security, training a Palestinian police force, overseeing demilitarisation, and supporting reconstruction.

U.S. Ambassador Mike Waltz hailed the vote as a “major step” toward a stable, demilitarised Gaza and improved security for Israel. Russia and China abstained, with Moscow warning the plan relies too heavily on U.S. assurances and may jeopardise prospects for a two-state solution.

Hamas swiftly condemned the resolution, claiming the force’s mandate to disarm militant groups destroys any pretense of neutrality and aligns the mission with Israel.
