Name release – SH 3, Turakina crash
Police can now release the name of the pedestrian who died after being struck by a vehicle on State Highway 3, Turakina, on 1 October.
She was Arohanui Frances Smith, aged 47, from Tokorangi, Halcombe.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
Appeal for information following fatal crash, SH 3, Te Kawa
Police are appealing for information following a fatal crash on SH 3, near Te Kawa on Wednesday, 14 September.
One person died at the scene and Police urge anyone with information to come forward and speak with us.
The crash occurred at around 12:30pm, between Te Kawa Road and Waikeria Road, and involved a silver, Holden Commodore car and a truck.
In particular, Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash.
Anyone who was travelling south of Te Awamutu on SH 3, between 12:15pm and 12:30pm, on Wednesday, 14 September who may have witnessed the crash, or the silver, Holden Commodore car prior to the crash, is asked to please get in touch with Police.
Police would be particularly interested in hearing from the drivers of a black or dark-grey vehicle, a blue Subaru, and a white curtainside truck, which were seen driving in the area around the time of the crash.

Charges following Wellington motorway protest
Six people have been arrested following protest action at Wellington’s Terrace Tunnel this morning.
Police were called to the tunnel about 7.35am after reports of people blocking the road in peak traffic.
Wellington Area Commander Inspector Dean Silvester says Police acted quickly to minimise risk to public safety.
“While protest activity in itself is lawful, the actions of those on the motorway this morning were not.
“Being on foot on the motorway is incredibly dangerous, not only for those individuals, but for motorists.
“We will not hesitate to take action in cases where safety is threatened.”
The six people have been charged with wilful trespass and criminal nuisance, and have been held in custody to appear in the Wellington District Court.
As the matter is now before the courts, Police will not comment further.
Name release – vehicle incident, Waimarama
Police can now release the name of the man who died following a vehicle incident on Harper Road, Waimarama, on Monday 10 October.
He was Hayden Darren John Barnden, 38, of Clive.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the incident are ongoing.
