Latrell Mitchell bolstered his bid for an Origin recall with a standout performance in the Rabbitohs’ 22-12 victory over the Broncos.
Despite spending 10 minutes in the bin for his role in a second-half altercation, Mitchell was instrumental at Accor Stadium, scoring a try, setting up another, and causing constant problems for the Broncos’ defense with his towering kicks.
This was South Sydney’s best performance of the season, highlighted by Alex Johnston’s 50th-minute try, his 191st career try, moving him past Billy Slater to second place on the all-time Premiership try-scorers list, trailing only Ken Irvine.
The Rabbitohs‘ victory was further sweetened by Cameron Murray’s return from injury and a dominant display from Keaon Koloamatangi, who amassed 202 metres. Tom Burgess and Murray also made significant contributions, taming Brisbane’s formidable pack.
For the Broncos, this third consecutive loss puts them at risk of falling out of the top eight ahead of their bye. Despite a late surge with two tries from Deine Mariner and successful conversions by Kotoni Staggs, the early damage inflicted by South Sydney was too great to overcome, leaving Brisbane in a precarious position.
