Hayden Wilde claims silver in dramatic triathlon finish

Kiwi Hayden Wilde narrowly missed out on gold in a thrilling Olympic triathlon in Paris, clinching silver after being overtaken by Great Britain’s Alex Yee in the final stretch.

Despite a rough start in the swim and a transition mishap, Wilde showcased his resilience by closing the gap during the bike leg and excelling in the run. He led the race with less than 3 km to go, only for Yee to make a surprising surge and secure victory, with Wilde finishing second and France’s Leo Bergere taking bronze.

Wilde praised his teammate Dylan McCullough, who played a crucial role in the cycling leg, for his selfless support that helped him achieve the podium finish.

Wilde’s performance was a testament to his determination and teamwork, with McCullough sacrificing his position to aid Wilde’s progress during the bike leg. Wilde credited him for the energy saved on the bike, which was pivotal for his silver medal finish.
