At a recent World Economic Forum (WEF) panel, former US Secretary of State John Kerry openly criticised the First Amendment, claiming that the freedom of speech enshrined in the US Constitution makes it difficult to combat so-called “disinformation” and govern effectively.
Speaking to global elites at the WEF, Kerry lamented that individuals now have the right to choose their own sources of information, bypassing the corporate media’s control over public discourse.
Kerry’s remarks reflect a growing frustration among unelected globalist institutions like the WEF, which have long pushed for greater control over public narratives and human rights, particularly when it comes to critical issues like “climate change” and energy policy.
He argued that the lack of “referees” to determine what is fact or fiction has “eviscerated” consensus in democracies, and blamed the First Amendment for standing in the way of efforts to eliminate what he called “disinformation”.
Critics, however, view these comments as an attack on the fundamental right to free speech, suggesting that the WEF and its allies are more interested in controlling the narrative than protecting open dialogue.
The concerns raised by Kerry echo sentiments shared by other WEF figures, including Wall Street Journal Editor in Chief Emma Tucker, who lamented the loss of the media’s monopoly on information.
As trust in the media continues to erode, Kerry’s comments reinforce fears that global elites are seeking to suppress dissenting voices and restrict access to alternative viewpoints, all under the guise of combating “disinformation.”
