Government “broadly accepts” findings of Royal Commission into Abuse in Care

The government has largely accepted the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care, pledging to address the failings and provide a comprehensive response to the recommendations.

Lead Coordination Minister Erica Stanford acknowledged the Crown’s failure in protecting thousands of vulnerable individuals and expressed the Government’s commitment to doing better.

While further work is needed to address the 138 recommendations, particularly those with legal implications, the Government has already taken steps such as providing urgent financial assistance to terminally ill survivors of abuse at the Lake Alice Unit.

A Crown Response Office has been established to oversee the Government’s ongoing response, and Prime Minister Chris Hipkins is set to deliver a public apology to survivors in Parliament on November 12.

  1. And what about Prime minister Jenny Shipley, can she help? Prime minister Jacinda Ardern anyone? No she’s too expensive now, she’s got her own gig.
Prime Minister Bill English? Get as many of the Prime Ministers as we can, God knows we need them.

  2. If Coordination Minister Erica Stanford acknowledged the Crown’s failure in protecting thousands of vulnerable individuals and expressed the Government’s commitment to doing better, then she ought to look into the horrendous abuse the Family Court system perpetrates, leaving families shattered, children alienated and fathers as a whole new group of convicts, all in private without any oversight and remedy.
