Police have launched a homicide investigation following a fatal crash on Lanham Lane in Massey on Tuesday night that claimed the life of a man.
A 37-year-old suspect has been arrested and charged with murder.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:50 p.m., when a vehicle reportedly struck the victim on a driveway before fleeing the scene. Despite efforts by ambulance staff, the victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Detective Senior Sergeant Tim Williams of Waitematā CIB confirmed that inquiries overnight led police to locate the vehicle involved at an address in Avondale. The alleged driver was subsequently apprehended in Thames and transported back to Auckland.
The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Waitākere District Court today. Police have stated that the two men were known to each other and are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case.
A scene examination is ongoing as investigators work to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
