US House passes last-minute funding Bill to avert government shutdown

US Spending Bill news

With just hours to spare before a federal funding deadline, the US House of Representatives passed a bill on Friday to prevent a partial government shutdown.

The measure, which extends current funding levels through mid-March and provides over $100 billion in disaster relief, was approved in a bipartisan 366-34 vote.

Speaker Mike Johnson expressed confidence after days of uncertainty, saying the importance of maintaining essential government services and providing aid to farmers and disaster victims.

The legislation bypassed standard procedures, requiring two-thirds approval to ensure swift passage, with Democrats playing a crucial role in its success.

The bill, however, sidesteps action on the national debt limit, a contentious issue among Republicans and allies of President-elect Trump. E

arlier attempts to pair funding measures with debt limit increases failed, leading to divisions within the GOP and prompting Johnson to pledge future action on the debt ceiling.

The current measure excludes controversial provisions that derailed previous efforts, focusing instead on immediate funding needs.

The Senate is expected to vote on the bill next, with President Biden indicating he would sign it into law if it reaches his desk. The move temporarily averts a shutdown, but broader debates over spending and debt loom.

  1. They desperately needed to pass a bill to saddle the incoming Trump admin with last minute political quagmires, to insulate their various money laundering schemes from DOGE resolutions, and to prevent Pam Bondi and Kash Patel from going after Schiff, Swalwell and Liz Cheney.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a spineless weasel, obviously being bribed or blackmailed. He looks the type.
