An unprecedented surge in submissions flooded Parliament’s website ahead of the Tuesday night deadline for the Principles of the Treaty of Waitangi Bill.

Although online submissions close at 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, hard copies will be accepted until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

However, many users reported technical issues, including error messages and submission failures.

Clerk of the House David Wilson confirmed the submission portal remains operational but acknowledged the impact of overwhelming traffic.

Speaking to state media, he advised users to retry if errors occur and noted staff will be available to assist on Wednesday.

  1. Need to scrap the treaty, it was written between the natives and the settlers, just maori and British, we now have many races and nationalities so how about a new constitution.

    • If you don’t like it leave. It’s obvious with the comment above you have no regard for our culture or the people? People like you come from the gutter belong in the gutter. Go back where you came from no space for your toxic kind here.

      • Oh strike a nerve did I? For you information you butt hurt clown, I am of English, Irish and ngapuhi descent, my great great great grandfather signed the treaty and fought for the crown against the rebels, both sides of my ancestry fought against each other so I won’t chose sides in this ridiculous debate over the treaty. We were all getting on great until the waitangi tribunal gravy train began.

        • I CONCUR,WELL SPOKEN , I’M ALSO SICK OF THE MODERN TREATY, A SO CALLED “LIVING DOCUMENT” BECAUSE IT IS BEING USED ILLICITLY BY A FEW FOR THIER BENEFIT ONLY.

    • I would support full independence for NZ (getting away from the corrupt British monarchy and its perverted royal family would be the best thing for us hands down), but I’m HIGHLY dubious about drafting a new constitution in the current day and age.

FAR TOO MUCH political corruption, far too much woke and far too many climate and big pharma Ponzi schemes up in the air for me to trust the best interests of New Zealanders would actually be protected.

Any new constitution should be drafted by a pool of ordinary citizens rather than anyone in Wellington (or at Blackrock).
