All Blacks captain Scott Barrett has been ruled out for the remainder of the test series against France after scans confirmed a calf tear sustained during the first Test in Dunedin.
The big lock was replaced midway through the 31-27 victory, and no return date has been set.
Assistant coach Scott Hansen acknowledged Barrett’s absence as a significant loss but expressed confidence in the squad’s depth.
While no replacement has been confirmed, Patrick Tuipulotu is a likely option. Ardie Savea will step in as captain for the second Test in Wellington.
