Police: No storage CCTV in Hakyung Lee murder trial

The High Court heard Wednesday that police could find no CCTV of Hakyung Lee at the storage facility where her children Minu and Yuna Jo were hidden because the 2018 hard drive had been replaced and destroyed.

Detective Sgt Ryan Singleton outlined inquiries into Lee’s power records, bank transfers and drive times, and said Lee’s mother did not raise specific safety concerns; no Nortriptyline was found at the locker.

Digital analyst Damian Govender said the family PlayStation showed the children’s Minecraft trophies last updated 27 June 2018, though exact timing is uncertain after years in storage and clock drift.

Lee admits causing the deaths and placing the remains in suitcases but pleads not guilty to murder by reason of insanity following her husband’s 2017 death; the Crown says her post-offence actions show awareness. Agreed facts covered trips to the Gold Coast, Seoul and Queenstown, and a solo business-class flight to Seoul in July 2018; police filed murder charges and an extradition warrant in August 2022. The defence is expected to open its case Thursday.
