The Freedom Party (NZ Outdoors & Freedom Party) is proud to announce the candidacy of Alistair Wait for the Northland electorate & as a list candidate.
Alistair Wait brings a wealth of experience to the campaign, having spent many years researching and teaching constitutional history, common law, equity, and tikanga Māori. His work has focused heavily on the constitutional foundations of Aotearoa New Zealand and the complex relationship between the people and the State.
Throughout his career, Alistair has worked closely with individuals, whānau, and communities as they navigate the challenges of courts, trusts, land ownership, governance and nuanced questions of native sovereignty. He describes his approach as a “bridge walker”, an individual committed to moving between diverse legal, cultural, and political worlds to foster understanding and bring critical, often difficult, conversations into the public sphere.
Alistair was an outspoken advocate of “do not vote” during the last general election, reflecting a deep-seated dissatisfaction with a political system. His decision to stand with the Freedom Party in 2026 is rooted in a new perspective.
“What has changed is the opportunity to campaign openly for direct democracy and meaningful constitutional change,” says Wait.
Alistair holds the firm belief that representative government should not be synonymous with surrendering political power for three-year intervals. He has long advocated for the adoption of systems similar to Switzerland’s, where citizens hold the power to decide significant national & local questions through binding referenda.
For Alistair, this campaign represents more than just a move into electoral politics; it is a vital opportunity to elevate constitutional questions and community experience into decisions. “Political authority ultimately belongs to the people,” says Alistair.
About the Freedom Party
The Freedom Party (New Zealand Outdoors & Freedom Party) has been a registered party for 11 years and advocates for individual liberty, democratic reform, and the protection of New Zealand’s natural heritage. It recently took the Electoral Commission to the High Court to fight to simplify its name on the ballot to ‘Freedom’ and awaits the outcome of this case. Either way it will be the only political party on the ballot paper with the word ‘Freedom’ in its name www.freedom.kiwi
I was thinking of voting for Freedom.
But not anymore after this news:
“Cannabis use in 20s and 30s linked to earlier onset of psychosis, study finds.”
https://www.noticer.news/cannabis-study-earlier-onset-psychosis/
You cannot condemn the medical damage by the COVID vaccines while at the same time legalise the damage by self administering camnabis.
Mind as well rename it as the Cognitive Dissonance party.
Yes. Lets deny everyone else the beneficial uses of cannabis because of a study, most likely made, to find the results they were looking for.
Vote for someone else then. Weed should be decriminalised for personal use, not legalised for corporate profit.
You obviously haven’t even read the article.
Psychotic much already?
I read the article. I’m not saying that this doesn’t occur. I’m just sceptical of this finding when the article talks about it’s affect on onset of psychosis. So, people that have a family history of psychosis may have onset earlier. Whether the cannabis is causal and to what level is debatable.
Do I need to point you to the mountains of evidence of harm from alcohol?
And yet, no political party is calling for that to be made illegal are they?
As the old saying goes, it’s ok to drink your drugs. innit?
Probably 70% of the people i know have used or do use cannabis. I don’t know a single one that has gone on to have psychosis. The vast majority of them are very successful in their professions.
Birds of a feather eh? You pro cannabis people absolutely crack me up. Zaggaz I have read a lot of your comments and I never would have guessed you’re a stoner…..😂😂😂
There are multiple cases in New Zealand where someone has been murdered by someone who is suffering from cannabis induced psychosis.
Any time I hear people pipe up about medical cannabis etc etc I switch off.
There are so many better natural therapies available that help with all the things that people claim cannabis helps with.
After my close experience with people who have smoked cannabis or consumed it, and how I have witness the change in behaviour, sometimes extremely dangerous, I will NEVER support the use of cannabis. What goes up must come down.
So yah I won’t ever vote for people who want it legalised or support its use.
And anyway a vote for a minor party is a wasted vote sorry to say. Better to join one of the existing partied and influence from within.
Lucky I dont require your permission to use cannabis I get mine on script from my dr
And your cannabanoid system is clearly depleted
Ride with Larry
Oh retard . You’re lame absolutely lame and pathetic
Cannabis has been used for 3000 years.
Have another beer mate
Ride with Larry.
You’re willfully ignorant
Maybe the wokesters living in “Aotearoa” who practise tikanga (whatever that is) will vote for them.
I don’t think real New Zealanders will.
Hooch f*cks up your lungs and can make you wheeze horribly at night and make you cough like hell and makes you a muttering talk-to-yourself fool with dim-witted ideas that just don’t make sense when you’re straight. It f*cks up teenagers and twenty-somethings and turns them into dead-beats with no ambitions or any real purpose or planning-ahead mentality. Makes over-fifties depressed and “what’s the point” down for a good two weeks solid if giving it up cold-turkey then gradually you come right and liven-up.. Then get another ounce and you’re back to square one and soon enough annoyingly heading back for another two weeks of cold-turkey sh*t ahead again if you don’t get yourself another ounce. Pro’s are soothed aches and pains with zombied muscle relaxation, off-the planet oragsms and mind-blowing music and mood-lifting appreciation of small everyday things that when straight are just unseen and non-important… It also kills your dreams during sleep. Can make you a dumarsed driver but can on the flip-side make you a safer more cautious driver… Make your choice…
If you want to sooth aches and pains you’re better off sunbathing and taking Epsom salt baths. Cheaper or free and there’s no mood changing behavioural problems
He should have stayed true to “do not vote”.
Let Freedom reign in New Zealand.
Would have to be a better bet than Opportunity
You mean Tax Opportunity Party……?
Looking more and more to me, at least, like the Green Party 2.0. I’m going with the New Conservatives, they have their act together, are not a hippie magnet and don’t want to make the middle class “pay for everything”…..
As for TOP, Nats and Labour, well I’d rather vote for the New Satanists Party……
Wasted vote
And the winner is…. The NZ Company Church (Knights of Malta) Parliament. It’s the system, stupid.
