One person has been confirmed deceased after a car entered the water in Ōamaru yesterday evening.
Police were called to Holmes Wharf, around 5.30pm, with reports that a vehicle went into the Ōamaru Harbour – however, no one was seen to resurface from the water.
With the assistance from local divers, Police, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and Ambulance staff, the body of a 69-year-old Ōamaru man was located.
CPR was conducted immediately, but sadly the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. Our thoughts are with the man’s family during this difficult time.
A scene guard was in place at the Holmes Wharf overnight, and the Serious Crash Unit, along with other specialist groups, will be conducting a scene examination today.
Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing, and Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the crash.
Information can be provided through 105, either online or over the phone, referencing file number 260825/4540.
