Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, have been found dead inside their Los Angeles home, with police investigating the case as a double homicide.
Law enforcement confirmed the identities of the two victims, aged 78 and 68, after they were discovered at the couple’s Brentwood residence on Sunday local time, suffering injuries consistent with a knife attack.
US media outlets report that investigators are examining whether the couple’s 32-year-old son, screenwriter Nick Reiner, was involved, though the investigation remains ongoing.
Reiner was a highly influential Hollywood filmmaker best known for directing a series of genre-defining films across comedy, drama and fantasy, including This Is Spinal Tap, Stand by Me, The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally…, Misery and A Few Good Men. He also directed The American President, Ghosts of Mississippi and The Bucket List, while earlier gaining fame as an actor playing Michael “Meathead” Stivic on All in the Family.
The Los Angeles Police Department said detectives from its Robbery-Homicide Division were called in due to the seriousness and profile of the case, and inquiries are continuing into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
He certainly was a looney leftist, but I hope now he gets to rest in peace.
