New Zealand-born acupuncturist Arthur Cunningham, 69, and his wife Sheena, 55, have been jailed in Australia for manipulating a patient into sexual acts under the guise of health treatment.
A Brisbane jury found the couple guilty of 10 charges, including multiple counts of rape and sexual assault, after hearing how they convinced their victim, in her 20s, that sex with them would provide “good hormones” and make her healthy.
The abuse, which the judge described as a “gross breach of trust,” occurred over several months at their Queensland acupuncture business. The victim likened the experience to a “horror movie,” saying she felt “violated in every way.”
Arthur was sentenced to nine years in prison and faces likely deportation to New Zealand, while Sheena received seven years.
