Shawn Rogers, a 52-year-old battalion chief and veteran of the Maui Fire Department, has been arrested and charged with first-degree sexual assault and the continuous sexual assault of a minor under 14 years old.
The charges were confirmed by the Maui Police Department, which revealed that Rogers, a 25-year member of the fire department, posted bail set at $150,000, according to local media.
The arrest has sent shockwaves through the community and the Maui Fire Department. Fire Chief Brad Ventura expressed deep concern over the allegations. “We are deeply concerned about the allegations regarding one of our firefighters. Mr. Rogers is not scheduled to work this week and we will continue to evaluate this situation as more information is available,” Ventura said in a statement released by the department.
Rogers’ arrest follows an investigation by the Maui Police Department. Details surrounding the alleged incidents have not been fully disclosed, but the charges indicate serious accusations involving the sexual abuse of a minor over a period of time.
The Maui Fire Department has pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation.
