Telecommunications company 2degrees has been fined $325,000 by the Auckland District Court after admitting to misleading customers with advertising that falsely claimed “free” or “no extra cost” Australian business roaming between 2020 and 2023.
In reality, customers were only entitled to 90 days of free roaming annually, after which they were charged $7 to $8 per day.
The Commerce Commission brought the charges under the Fair Trading Act, emphasising that key terms must be clear and not hidden in fine print, and that consumers should be able to trust headline claims in advertising.
