New Zealand’s job market is showing early signs of recovery, with job ads rising 4 percent in January, marking the strongest growth in five months, according to Seek NZ’s latest employment report.
However, ad volumes remain flat quarter-on-quarter and are still 17 percent lower than a year ago, indicating caution in declaring a sustained trend.
“We typically see a bit more activity at the start of the year. we see hires looking to fill positions and we see candidates a lot more active, having come back after a summer break and reflecting on where they might want to work,” a spokesperson for Seek told state-funded media.
Public and consumer services sectors saw the most growth, while legal, insurance, and accounting industries experienced declines. Wellington and Otago showed regional improvement, particularly in hospitality and tourism, but experts caution that the increase may reflect seasonal hiring rather than a long-term shift.
