Rocket Lab has secured the largest contract in its history, signing an US$816 million deal with the United States Space Development Agency to build 18 advanced satellites designed to detect and track missile threats, including hypersonic weapons.
The agreement significantly expands the New Zealand-founded company’s role in national security space programs and builds on an existing US$515 million satellite contract.
Founder and chief executive Peter Beck said the deal reflects growing demand for efficient and affordable space systems, highlighting Rocket Lab’s vertically integrated model that produces both spacecraft and payloads in-house.
The contract comes as the company maintains a busy launch schedule, having this week successfully deployed four spacecraft for the US Department of Defense from Virginia, five months ahead of schedule.
