Cabinet Minister Chris Bishop has admitted he should have kept his thoughts to himself after calling aspects of a performance at the Aotearoa Music Awards “a lot of crap,” referring to the political imagery during Stan Walker’s segment.
Video shows Bishop making the comment while seated, prompting a verbal exchange with musician Don McGlashan, who later realised he was confronting the minister.
Bishop acknowledged his remark was about what he viewed as “overtly political branding,” but denied being intoxicated or engaging in any further inappropriate behaviour.
A spokesperson called additional allegations a political smear.

Bishop is a uniparty clown but he doesnt look drink in that video to me
Reality check
No doubt correct
Perhaps we need true artists and gentlemen/ladies like Don McGlashan in the legislature and remove the corporate suits toughing on the public purse whilst at the same time denigrating Our Kiwi culture in place of their cut-price ”statutes for sale’ bargain basement brain power.
You get what you vote for…….Glad i don’t support the uni parties……
The music ‘culture in New Zealand is overwhelmingly characterized by soapy emoji ballads, created with auto-tune modulation, vapid texts with Ai lyrics, rhymes that feel like a fakir’s nail-bed, content as much divested of any political or social critique as possible.
It is a vain, insipid, tedious lalala without any substance.
It is a Kindergarten of hurt feelings and appeasing reality flight instead of talking about the colossal betrayal of subsequent governments which all frittered away precious future for the next generation.
To note: these ‘artists’ are again exploited for the benefit of exactly their parental generation that traded their kids’ productive future for increasing debt that these kids will never be able to pay off.
Unless you are a David Walker.
Now you might say ballads are as old as humanity and do serve exactly as a flight from reality.
Fine, true ballads have an important part in humanity.
That is if they had true artistic value. Art is when something new happens in the reader’s, listener’s or viewer’s mind.
But all that happens while listening to contemporary -and for once a politician is correct- CRAP is to find the OFF button.
The voices are mostly sounding the same, ‘males’ with their raspy moaning teenage Tanner vocalization, where one is tempted to kick them in the balls to make them fully drop. The females squealing with derogatory feminist Xena delusion and/or with slutty whore attitude, fingernails screeching over a blackboard.
The lyrics are nothing but banal, really.
But hey, it’s a increasingly stupefied generation. The edjewcation system is working. She be right, ay?
Now go back to your brain, err phone, and be placid, complacent, pliable. Maybe Stan Walker goes into politics.
God have mercy on Godzone.
Bishop is a woke cuck, they know he is a woke cuck and he was being reminded that if he wanted to keep his woke cuck status intact he will have to shut up, well he didn’t, what we will see next will be Bishop performing within a week a woke cuck humiliation ritual, or he will lose his cuck accreditation and also his rising star in politics which will plateau and fade.
This will be fun to watch.
Certainly fun to read…I needed a good laugh…..thx
Haha he was probably right!
Personally if I was him I don’t know if I would have bothered going. No one makes real decent music these days anyway.
What’s with all the flag waving? These people are ridiculous.
Any event with the made-up word “Aotearoa” in it should be avoided, especially by politicians who are meant to be representing New Zealanders in New Zealand. Got it, “get boosted” Bishop.
They misquoted him. He said “jeez i need a crap”.
It is crap.Lying parasite for once told the truth. We have been forced to pay for homegrown crap for decades, radio stations forced to play that sort of crap for NZ “music” month. If it cant survive without our stolen money, then it should die a natural death, that also goes for so-called “art”
