Cyclone Vaianu is forecast to track south across the North Island on Sunday, 12 April, bringing a dangerous combination of heavy rain, damaging winds, large swells and coastal inundation.

Authorities warn of a potentially life-threatening multi-hazard event that could trigger flooding, slips, power outages, fallen trees, road closures and isolated communities, depending on the cyclone’s path.

Widespread Heavy Rain and Strong Wind Watches are already in place across regions including Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay, with a high likelihood some areas will be upgraded to Orange or Red warnings as conditions intensify.

Officials are urging residents to monitor forecasts closely, prepare properties, clear drains, avoid low-lying areas and follow all advice from local authorities.

  1. I rode out Hurricane Andrew in 1992. It flattened almost everything south of Miami, and damaged the WTVJ Channel 4 studio.
Despite this, weatherman Bryan Norcross continued to broadcast from a damaged studio with rain and wind blowing in whilst the station was powered by a diesel generator.

In the 1960’s, WTVJ weatherman Bob Weaver did hourly updates on several serious storms until the wind bands reached south Florida, and then he would broadcast every :30 minutes.

THIS IS WHY AND WHERE TVNZ AND TV3 METEOROLOGISTS WILL NEED TO INTERRUPT NORMAL BROADCASTING THIS WEEK-END ALONGSIDE NZ CIVIL DEFENCE TO KEEP THE PUBLIC INFORMED. The days of ignoring bad weather events are pretty much over now due to Weather Warfare, Climate Manipulation, and oceans that are 1.5 degree warmer due to undersea volcanic activity and the Tongan Volcano blowing gigatonnes of water vapour into the upper atmosphere.

  2. If only everyone had taken their big-pharma medicine and we’d banned farming and banned all petrol and diesel and banned firewood and had electric buses and trucks and all lived on lentils and insects and we had all stayed indoors – then none of these storms would be happening…
