A violent argument escalated into a dangerous driving incident in Dunedin when one man clung to a moving trailer before falling and sustaining fatal head injuries.
The driver Andrew Mercer, who had taken meth earlier and was operating the vehicle erratically, continued driving despite realising someone was on the trailer, causing it to skid and lose control before the victim jumped off.
The subsequent hospitalisation and eventual withdrawal of life support of victim Robert Ralston left the family devastated.
The driver, who held only a learner licence and had a history of unsafe driving, pleaded guilty and received a prison sentence along with a driving disqualification.
Shouldn’t have been taking passengers
Or meth?
